Yesterday, PA Governor Tom Wolf joined ten of his fellow governors and penned a letter to President Trump and leaders in both congressional chambers pleading for more resources for BB deployment. The correspondence touched on familiar themes such as the digital divide: “Some 18 million Americans lack access to broadband internet connectivity, 14 million of whom reside in rural America”, broadband as a necessity: “Broadband is not a luxury, but rather critical infrastructure that’s vitally important to our economic future and national security”, and cost: “An FCC estimate from 2017 estimates it would cost $80 billion to bring high-speed internet to the remaining parts of our country that do not have access.” The correspondence stopped short of asking for a specific funding level but did call for the “Rural Electrification Act of our generation.”
