Several County Commissioners from across the Commonwealth came together to announce their legislative priorities for 2025 and 911 was at the top of the list. Saying that “this lifesaving service cannot become a perpetual backburner issue” County Commissioners Association President Sherene Hess noted that call volume has increased and the 911 surcharge has not kept pace. The CCAP position piece on the matter says that the current $1.95 surcharge leaves counties shouldering 20 percent of the cost.
