Hump Day was replaced with Fiber Day this week as a variety of parties descended upon the state capital to advocate for legislation paving the way for rural broadband deployment on the cusp of federal programs distributing more than $1 billion in the state. At a press conference on the matter, Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill made the case for her Senate Bill 491, which modernizes Pennsylvania’s antiquated telco regulatory structure and frees up resources which can also be invested in the new fiber network. This from Phillips-Hill: “Without some movement on the regulatory front, my rural constituents, and rural constituents all across the Commonwealth are not going to receive the full benefits of not only those federal broadband dollars, but those being invested by the RLECS themselves.”
