Yesterday, the FCC issued a news release following up on its issuance of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking to streamline the permitting process regarding impacts of broadband infrastructure deployment on the environment. Specifically, the Commission is seeking comments on projects which trigger significant federal agency action and often cause several year lags between project initiation and shovels in the ground. For good measure, the NOPR will also look at the FCC’s regulations regarding the National Historic Preservation Act and its impact on broadband deployment.
