Legislative – 10-28-22

Data breaches and personal information are front and center in legislation passed by the legislature this week in the form of Senate Bill 696. Sponsored by Senator Dan Laughlin (R-Erie), the bill updates the 2005 Breach of Personal Information Act to place specific notification requirements on state agencies which experience a breach in security and adds certain medical information the exposure of which requires notification to individuals. The Governor has until November 6, 2022, to sign.
