No surprises here, but certainly newsworthy, the FCC announced this week that its next open meeting will feature a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking to reclassify broadband Internet access as a telecommunications service. Using the well-worn “allow the Commission to protect consumers by issuing straightforward, clear rules to prevent ISPs from engaging in practices harmful…”, the FCC was expected to address the issue once its full complement was reached. (See related story in Quotable Section). Also on the agenda is a declaratory ruling clarifying that Wi-Fi on school buses is a service eligible for funding from the E-Rate program.
