Big bucks could come to state and local governments across the country for 9-1-1 in the just reintroduced Next Generation 9-1-1 Act. Prime sponsored by Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA), the legislation would authorize $15 billion in federal funding to help upgrade emergency call centers to handle text messages, pictures, videos and other information sent by tablets, smartphones and other electronic devices in an emergency situation.
