Fireworks are certainly in store for pre- and post- April 25th FCC open meeting if this week’s offerings are any indication. FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced mid-week that the Commission will vote to restore net neutrality and classify the Internet as a telecom service at its next meeting. The release notes that the FCC will vote on her proposal which, among other things will “return popular net neutrality protections” against blocking and throttling, boost network security, and increase consumer protections by protecting individuals’ data etc. Fellow Commissioner Brendan Carr’s statement on the matter was less optimistic, saying that “Americans’ own experiences have demonstrated that Title II is a solution that doesn’t work to a problem that doesn’t exist.” Stay tuned.
