In other legislative broadband news, Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill introduced a bill yesterday to modernize the manner in which traditional landline telcos are regulated. SB 1112 waives many outdated regulations and charges the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission with reviewing its telco regulations every three years and rescinding those that are no longer in the public interest. The co-sponsor memo from Senator Phillips-Hill had this to say about the bill’s necessity: “At a time when we are exploring alternatives to incent broadband deployment by private sector entities, a regulatory framework which diverts resources away from that investment and towards meeting antiquated regulatory requirements must be addressed,” The bill has been referred to the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee for its consideration.
