Small Cell/5G legislation in the form of HB 2564 remains in the House Consumer Affairs Committee as the legislative session comes to a close, but that hasn’t prevented critics from teeing-up the issue and, in some cases, taking official action. That was the case in the City of Lancaster on Tuesday, when the city council unanimously passed a resolution opposing the bill on the grounds that it strips the municipality of its authority to regulate the deployment of the antennas necessary to deliver 5G services. In the meantime, AT&T announced this week that several Pennsylvania cities (Erie, Johnstown, and Pittsburgh) are on the list to receive the next iteration of 5G service in the near-term.
