Legislation taking aim at Caller ID “spoofing” made headway this week in the House. Sponsored by Representative Karen Boback (R- Luzerne), House Bill 979 was reported out of the House Judiciary Committee and is set on the House calendar for consideration on February 2nd. The legislation makes spoofing a 3rd degree misdemeanor for a first offense and a 2nd degree for a second or subsequent offense. Telcos who are acting in their capacity as certificated providers are exempt from the provisions of the bill.
